Renting a room in Portugal is no longer a trend that is exclusively linked students.
Lisbon City Council (CML) has approved the launch of the public tender for the conversion of two of the buildings that the municipality bought from Social Security into student accommodation with 208 rooms.
The Portugese Government is considering abolishing the fixed amount of money given to university students as an accommodation allowance, and adjusting it according to the average rent in the area where they study. Currently, the grant is around 170 euros, regardless of the city.
The new student halls of residence Collegiate Porto Campus, which consists of 580 studio flats, is scheduled to open very soon in October 2019.
