The area surrounding Lagos Marina in the Algarve is undergoing a transformation, largely driven by the construction of two new hotels by DST, with an investment of €107.8 million. The new hotels are expected to open in 2026.
The land next to Lagos Marina was sold by Infraestruturas de Portugal to the Canadian group Mercan in February 2022. Now, DST is building two Hilton hotels on the site, with an investment of over €100 million, as reported by the Portuguese newspaper Expresso:
- Lagos Marina Hotel Curio Collection by Hilton: This 5-star hotel will offer 180 rooms, a restaurant, two bars, a terrace, and swimming pools. It will cover a construction area of 14,776 square metres (m2).
- Hilton Garden Inn Lagos: This 4-star hotel will feature 90 rooms (27 of which are suites), a bar, a restaurant, a gym, and an outdoor pool. The construction area will be 7,505 m2.
Both Hilton hotels in Lagos will also offer meeting spaces and over 160 parking spots, according to the same report. Additionally, around 2,000 m2 will be dedicated to outdoor spaces. The former train station will also be turned into a café and restaurant by another private company.
Along with the hotels and restaurants, the railway museum in Lagos, located in this area, will be restored. On the opposite side of Lagos Marina, new residential and commercial buildings are also planned, as the report mentions.
