Where is the best place to marry abroad? If you're in search of the best wedding destinations abroad, we're here to help. And Portugal proves to be a popular option, as there are two Portuguese cities in the top 20 most attractive destinations for weddings. Lisbon ranks 7th and Porto 17th, with an overall score of 6.3 and 5.8, respectively. This is according to a study by DC Jewellery, specialists in jewellery and wedding rings, which analysed, among other factors, the average cost of a 5-star hotel, the number of 5-star hotels and the average temperature of 37 world cities. Let's have a closer look at the best cities in the world to get married.
Leading the list is Mexico City (7.3 points), followed by South Africa's Cape Town (7.2), Mexico's Cancun (7.1) and Playa del Carmen (6.8). Sydney (Australia) and Barcelona (Spain) come next ahead of Lisbon.
According to the study, there are 42 5-star hotels in the Portuguese capital of Lisbon, far fewer than in Mexico City (81), for example, and the average stay costs just 169 pounds (198 euros) per night, which is less than in most of the cities analysed. In this category, it's also worth highlighting that a stay in Porto is even cheaper (175 euros).
Among the factors analysed are also the number of searches made on Google in 2021 and LGBTQ+ friendliness. In Lisbon and Porto, for example, same-sex marriage has been legal for 12 years, less time than in Amsterdam (Netherlands), but more than in London, Paris and Rio de Janeiro.
