The first private King's College School in Portugal will be built in Cascais, Lisbon, and is due to open its doors in September 2022. The new educational, artistic and sports facilities will add up to 40,000 square metres and its construction will require a total investment of €45 million.
"We are delighted to bring the first King's College School to Portugal," said Nadim M Nsouli, founder and CEO of Inspired, the group to which King's College School belongs. With a capacity of 1,200 students, this new private school will be situated on the existing campus of PaRK International School Cascais.
What will the new luxury college in Cascais be like?
As far as sports facilities are concerned, there will be two gymnasiums, football pitches, rugby pitches, tennis and paddle courts, and a swimming pool. There will also be rooms dedicated to the performing arts, such as dance and theatre, as well as spaces to practice musical instruments. In addition, the King's College School in Cascais will have a multipurpose room, an auditorium and several green spaces, the statement sent to the press revealed.
The new private college is expected to open in two phases, as explained in the document. In September 2022, King's College Cascais will offer places to children between the ages of 1 and 13. And in September 2023, when the expansion is completed, it will take in students up to the age of 16. The idea is that "as these students grow, the school years will progress with them". This is until the school can offer spaces for a complete range of ages, from 1-18 years old.
Also in September 2023 the boarding residence, which will offer accommodation to students from the age of 13, is due to be completed, with a capacity for up to 50 students.
In the words of Barbara Beck of Lancaster, managing director of Inspired in Portugal, "King's College School Cascais will be a unique school" that will "set new standards for modern private education". And Inspired's CEO added that, with this school, "our aim is to encourage innovation, build confidence and help young minds to learn and grow so they can thrive in today's world and in the future".
