A beach in the Algarve has been considered the easiest beach in Europe for a quick getaway. The study “Europe’s Easiest Beach Getaways”, released by the international platform hoppa, places the Algarve beach in 1st place in the ranking, with a score of 9.79 out of 10.

The main reason? You're just five minutes from Faro International Airport, a time seven times shorter than the European average of 35 minutes.

Faro Beach leads European accessibility ranking

The study analysed several popular beaches in Europe and evaluated criteria such as:

  • Airport transfer time
  • Average hotel prices
  • Weather conditions in summer
  • Online popularity
  • Environmental quality

Faro Beach stood out mainly for its record-breaking travel time between the airport and the sand: five minutes by car.

According to the methodology released by hoppa, the times were measured based on Google Maps estimates for trips made at 2 PM.

In a context where "nanovacations"—short trips of a few days—are gaining popularity, the proximity between the airport and the beach has become a decisive factor.

Faro Beach is located on a sandy peninsula between the Atlantic Ocean and the Ria Formosa lagoon. Its short distance from the airport means that shortly after landing, you can already be walking on the sand.

Besides its strategic location, other factors contributed to its leading position in the ranking:

  1. Low rainfall in the summer – averaging only 2 mm per month
  2. Affordable accommodation prices – three-star hotels with an average price of around 59 euros per night (value indicated in the study)
  3. Stable and sunny weather during the summer months

The Algarve benefits from typically dry weather conditions between June and August, which reduces the risk of lost days due to bad weather.

How was the ranking of the easiest beaches in Europe made?

A global aggregator of airport transfers, hoppa used several indicators to calculate the final score:

  • Environmental quality (blue flag data)
  • Average Google rating
  • Summer climate (temperature, hours of sunshine and precipitation)
  • Average price of three-star hotels
  • Airport transfer time
  • Volume of online searches

Each variable was normalised and weighted to generate the final ranking. This method allows you to compare destinations with different characteristics, but with a focus on convenience for short trips.
