Peniche’s coastal landscape is set for a significant transformation as iLanga Capital, owner of the Ohai Resorts brand, unveils plans for a five-star eco-resort investment valued at €50 million.
Positioned to elevate the region’s hospitality offering, the project will create a world-class eco-retreat that celebrates Peniche’s dramatic Atlantic setting and internationally renowned surf culture, according to Lisa Zakharka, Vice President of iLanga.
A phased vision for sustainable luxury
The development will unfold in two carefully planned phases:
Phase One – Opening Q1 2027 (€40 million investment)
- Construction of 160 eco-lodge residences
- Premium communal facilities and curated leisure spaces
- Extensive landscaping and access infrastructure
- Full installation of utilities and supporting infrastructure
Phase Two – Completion 2029 (€10 million investment)
- Addition of 60 further accommodation units, including spacious multi-bedroom villas designed for families and groups
Construction will prioritise low-impact, environmentally responsible methods, preserving the integrity of the coastal setting while delivering high-end comfort and design.
Economic and urban impact
Beyond hospitality, the project represents a long-term partnership with the Municipality of Peniche under a 25-year concession agreement, generating €750,000 annually for the city.
At peak season, the resort is expected to create approximately 100 direct jobs, reinforcing its contribution to the local economy. Infrastructure enhancements, including improvements to Avenida Monsenhor Bastos — Peniche’s principal gateway — will further elevate the area’s urban appeal.
Mayor Filipe Matos Sales has described the development as a “structural investment for the municipality,” underscoring its strategic importance for tourism growth and urban enhancement.
Positioning Peniche for the next chapter
Targeted at discerning couples, families, and international travellers seeking an authentic yet refined coastal experience, the resort will blend sustainable luxury with Peniche’s surf-driven identity.
With doors set to open in early 2027, the project signals a new chapter for Peniche — one that aligns environmental stewardship with premium hospitality and long-term real estate value.
