Your floor can take a beating sometimes. They are subject to continuous movement, dirt, knocks and spills of all kinds. It's no surprise, the floor is the element that suffers most at home. And of course, it is as much subject to fashions and trends as any other part of your home. But new materials (and some older ones), with a touch of modernity, can allow us to renovate our floors with a minimum of investment and, often, without much work.

The Habitíssimo portal has brought us a set of example floors that can help you give your house a new look for a lot less than you might think. Here are some examples.

Vinyl flooring

In the form of tiles, self-adhesive or with a 'click' system, vinyl floors are one of the best solutions if you want to change the image of your home without spending too much. In addition to being cheap, they are resistant, and withstand impacts and humidity without problems. You can find them with a multitude of finishes, which can almost perfectly imitate other materials, such as hydraulic tile, stone or wood. Another advantage is that they sit easily on the old floor and are so thin that, fortunately, you won't have problems with the doors.

Linoleum floors

Until recently, you only tended to see this in schools and health centers, stores or industries. However linoleum flooring is also starting to be taken up as an option for the decoration of homes for several reasons. Although they can be confused, linoleum flooring has nothing to do with vinyl. It is made from linseed oil and materials such as crushed stone or wood flour. It is, therefore, a material of natural origin and biodegradable, which is already a point in its favor.

What other advantages does it have? It is very durable, waterproof and of course cheap. Also, it hardly needs any maintenance, it's a good insulator, and it's eco-friendly. The downside is a more limited set of finish options than vinyl floors.

Laminate floors

This type of floor is also very attractive, for more reasons than just the price. It's perfect if you want to enjoy the warmth of wood without going through its maintenance or the care it needs. It is also a good option if your are looking to improve your home's insulation.

What else have laminate floors got going for them? In addition to imitating wood, laminates are sold in many other finishes so there's plenty of choice; they are hypoallergenic and antibacterial and, in addition, they are installed directly on top of the old floor. Of course, it is always better to opt for a quality floor. In this regard, it is recommended to look at both the thickness of each model and the usage for which it is intended.

Cork floors

Cork is an increasingly popular material for floors and walls. Floors made with this material resist moisture, repel mold and fungus, are anti-allergenic and recover their original state when strong pressure is exerted on them.

As it gains popularity, there are more and more attractive models and finishes, so it's very easy to adapt these floors to any style you want to give your home. And of course it is a material with very low environmental impact.
