Where is it safest to live in Portugal? Guarda, Santarém and Bragança are the three safest districts in the country, according to the Securitas Direct Safety Barometer 2020, which evaluates the various areas of the country taking into account the number of incidents recorded. Completing the top 5 are Évora and Viseu.
Specifically and according to the barometer, the safest district of Portugal is actually Guarda, since the incidence rate of occurrences is the lowest of all districts in the country (0.36%). In second place is the district of Santarém (0.51%), followed by Bragança (0.52%), Évora (0.62%) and Viseu (0.65%), reads the statement sent to the press.
These are the five districts in Portugal that registered the lowest incidence rates, which are calculated based on the number of alarm triggers and instructions detected by the company's Alarm Reception Centre in relation to the total number of security installations, which exceeds 160,000.
Where are the most incidences detected?
In the private sector, houses and villas represent the overwhelming majority of incidents; nine out of every 10 cases. Flats, on the other hand, represent only 10% of incidents detected.
At national level, small businesses - primarily shops and restaurants - registered around six in every 10 attempts (59%) of theft or intrusion, while offices and companies registered 29% of incidents and industrial assets only 12 per cent, the same publication revealed.
According to the barometer, the majority of robberies and attempted robberies in 2020 occurred between 1am and 4am, which represents around 29.5% of actual incidences during this time period. Monday is the day of the week where more incidences of this type are recorded.
