From classic holiday destinations to smaller, quieter places, tourist attractions come in all shapes and sizes. Condé Nast Traveller chose the best cities in Europe in 2021 and one of them is in Portugal. For the readers of the renowned magazine, Porto is the second best city in Europe, as well as being the only Portuguese city to be represented on the list.

"Previously considered to be Lisbon's little sister, Porto beat out the Portuguese capital in this year's ranking," writes Condé Nast.

Porto won 92.78 points, behind Istanbul, in Turkey, the big winner in the ranking, with 93.67 points. San Sebastian, in Spain, comes in third place with 91.52 points, and Salzburg, in Austria, with 88.34 points, finished in fourth place. Closing out the top 5 is the Italian city of Siena, with 86.13 points.

The evaluation was based on criteria such as gastronomy, hotels with high standards of service and quality, the hospitality of the locals, in addition to the historical tradition of each city. More than 800 thousand readers from all over the world contributed to the 34th annual edition of the Reader's Choice Awards of Condé Nast Traveler (CNT).
