The Verdelago Resort, between Praia Verde and Altura, in the Algarve, opens its doors this summer. And to combat the biggest obstacle to hiring people for this region - that is, the lack of accommodation- they decided to invest in a mini-resort to accommodate future employees. Investment to be around nine million euros.

The five-star resort, on the beachfront in the eastern Algarve, has developed an employee housing project that involved the purchase of two nearby buildings and the construction of a superior quality 80-bed resort in Castro Marim. This development in partnership with the City Council, will be implemented on a plot of land of around 7 hectares and is intended to accommodate employees.

This mini-resort for employees, with a projected completion date of summer 2024, will be prepared to accommodate, for example, senior and middle managers accompanied by their families, as it features suites and villas. It will have facilities such as swimming pools and sports fields, the press release said.

According to the text, the investment in Verdelago Resort aims to reinforce its uniqueness worldwide and make it an active protagonist of a new generation of resorts that positively respond to economic, environmental, and social sustainability. It also aims to combat the high cost of accommodation, which is the biggest obstacle to hiring people in the Algarve region.

The resident population is very small in this part of the Algarve. According to Paulo Monteiro, General Director of Development at Verdelago Resort, their social and economic policy aims to value local assets as much as possible, so initial hiring focussed mainly on the region. As recruitment needs increase, however, they see the need to offer not only good remuneration and career prospects but also attractive staff accommodation.
