Driving in Portugal: Residents in Portugal are among the Europeans who drive the most

If you're looking to move to a car-friendly country, then Portugal could be the place for you. From data recorded until the end of 2018, and before the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, it can be concluded that the Portuguese are among the Europeans who use cars most to travel. Portugal is, moreover, the country with the second highest car use in Europe, with 88.4% of journeys being made by car. Only Lithuanians exceed this figure (90.4%), according to data recently revealed by Eurostat. The EU statistics office also concludes that Austria is the country where most journeys are made by train (12.9%). The Dutch (11.2%) and the French (10.3%) complete the podium in this order. 

As far as the use of the bus is concerned, it is in Hungary that this means of transport has the most fans (20.8%), followed by Cyprus (18.9%) and Malta (17.5%).
