There are many spectacular places around the world, and Portugal continues to stand out across borders and in various international rankings as a destination of excellence. Lisbon was elected as the second best city in the world for "five star tourism", only behind Athens, which occupies the first position. The ranking, highlighted on the Money.co.uk website, took into account the reviews and evaluations of travellers on sites such as Tripadvisor. The most highly rated cities were analysed when it came to hotels, restaurants, nightlife and things to do.
Lisbon was ranked as having 15.8% of its overall tourist offer with a top score from travellers (an average that includes hotels, Michelin-starred restaurants, tourist attractions and nightlife). In the Portuguese capital, Lisbon tourist attractions and the activities available stand out, with 40% of the proposals being rated with five stars by tourists. Among 4,094 Lisbon attractions, 1,636 received the maximum score.
The site highlights several top-rated tourist attractions in Lisbon, including the "imposing São Jorge Castle, overlooking the beautiful streets in pastel shades of Lisbon, and the National Tile Museum". The city is also known "for its excellent food and is within walking distance of several beaches," it adds.
