The Madeira regional government has approved a €525,000 investment to rehabilitate the bathing area of Ponta Delgada, in the municipality of São Vicente, on the island’s north coast.
The funding will support the refurbishment of the outdoor areas and facilities at the Ponta Delgada swimming pools, improving conditions for both residents and visitors. The project also includes the installation of new safety features and updated signage, strengthening the protection of people and property.
The works will be carried out under a programme contract with the Sociedade de Desenvolvimento do Norte da Madeira, the public entity responsible for the project. The regional government’s financial contribution will be spread over three years: €20,000 in 2026, €355,000 in 2027 and €150,000 in 2028.
Broader investment in tourism and sustainability
In addition to the north coast upgrade, the government has approved changes to a financial cooperation agreement for the construction of padel courts in Porto Santo. The revised arrangement concentrates the full €550,000 public contribution into 2026.
A new programme contract worth €100,000 has also been signed with the Sociedade de Desenvolvimento do Porto Santo to fund the upgrade of the irrigation system at Porto Santo golf course. The project aims to modernise and fully refurbish the system to reduce water waste and promote more efficient resource use, particularly in the current context of drought and water scarcity.
According to the regional executive, these interventions form part of a wider strategy to enhance infrastructure, support tourism, improve environmental sustainability and ensure more efficient water management. The goal is to reinforce the attractiveness and functionality of key leisure facilities in Madeira and Porto Santo.
