For some it’s the moment they’ve waited for their whole life, for others an irrelevant hangover from a past age. Yes, we’re talking about marriage, an event in your life that can cost an arm and a leg… or not. If you're thinking of tying the knot in Portugal, it's best to start doing the sums now and make a list of all the things you really don't want to give up on your wedding day, to find out how much you’re willing to spend. So how much does it cost to get married in Portugal?

The total price of the ceremony will depend on the specific services you hire, of course. First of all, it's important to choose the date and whether you want to get married in winter or summer, because summer weddings in sunny Portugal are generally more expensive.

You then have to decide whether you'll plan everything on your or if you'll hire a wedding planner to do it for you. If you choose the second option, you should know that prices for a wedding planner in Portugal vary between 500 and 3,000 euro, according to Fixando, a platform that lets you contract various services, and which has revealed the average cost of some of the most common wedding services.

Then we come to hair and makeup, an important part of any wedding. For the bride, these services cost an average of 85 euro. And what about hiring a professional photographer? This will set you back, on average, 800 euro, to which you can add around another 400 euro if the package includes a professional wedding video. If you want to have a photo booth for your guests, that'll be another 450 euro.

After the actual wedding ceremony comes a moment of (relative) relaxation – the reception. To hire a DJ in Portugal, you should budget in at least 450 euro. Of course, it all depends on your taste and the style of music, because prices can reach up 1,500 euro.
