The Viceroy at Ombria Algarve, marking the debut of Viceroy Hotels & Resorts in Southern Europe, opened its doors on 1 October 2024 within the Ombria Algarve resort. “A new sustainable luxury destination, located in the municipality of Loulé,” notes Ombria Algarve in an official statement, a project being developed by the Finnish family office, Pontos Group.

This five-star hotel, “with 360-degree panoramic views over a serene landscape of green hills and streams,” as the company describes, offers 141 accommodation units, including rooms, suites, and apartments. Additionally, it occupies 5.2 hectares within the 153-hectare expanse of Ombria Algarve, which also features an 18-hole golf course—opened in 2023—and various types of homes for sale, including villas, townhouses, and apartments.

“Comprising 24 buildings, with a tower and central plaza, the design of this hotel reflects a traditional Algarvian village. With a range of accommodation types, some of the rooms and apartments feature terraces, pools, balconies, or Jacuzzis, as well as compact kitchens,” the statement reads.

Among its amenities, the Viceroy at Ombria boasts four swimming pools—three of which are heated—and six restaurants, each paying homage to the region’s produce, grown in the hotel’s gardens and orchards or sourced from local suppliers. Additional facilities include a kids’ club, a conference centre with a grand event hall and three meeting rooms, and a spa—with both indoor and outdoor thermal pools, eight treatment rooms, a hairdresser, and a barber, set to open in early 2025.

According to Mark Keiser, President of Development at Viceroy, the hotel “represents a new chapter for the brand.” “As we expand our presence in Europe… our goal is to foster a strong connection between guests and the destinations they explore,” he adds.

Meanwhile, Patrick Freeman, CEO of Ombria, believes the development is “a true celebration of Portugal and the Algarve.” “Viceroy, with its emphasis on authenticity and guest experience, is the perfect partner to introduce our first guests and owners to everything that makes the Viceroy at Ombria Algarve unforgettable,” he explains.
