A total of 91 new residential-tourism units have just been launched at Verdelago, Portugal’s only sustainable luxury resort, located in the southernmost paradise of the country, the Algarve. This new phase includes T1, T2 and T3 apartments, as well as T4 units being made available for the first time.
With private areas ranging from 82 to 206 square metres (m²) and terraces between 10 and 115 m², prices for these new apartments start at €715,000 for T1 units and reach up to €2.3 million for T4 units. This represents a value increase of 50% to 65% compared to the project’s first phase, which began in 2021.
The keys to the new apartments now available for sale are expected to be handed over in the summer of 2027, as part of an investment of around €74 million. In this new phase, priority will be given to those interested who were unable to acquire a unit in the previous phase and who have remained on the waiting list.
Verdelago Resort, which is also witnessing the construction of a five-star hotel with 197 rooms, spans a total of 86 hectares of land. Of this total, around 70 hectares are designated for vegetation, including a 42-hectare Green Park for Recreation and Leisure, a 24-hectare natural reserve facing the sea, a two-hectare lake, as well as areas for environmental interpretation, conservation, and the promotion of the natural habitat.
In 2025 alone, 600 direct and permanent jobs are expected to be created for the Verdelago project, with the recruitment process already underway.
Buyers captivated by this sustainable luxury project
The investment of over €300 million in this luxurious and eco-friendly development has been making waves, with incredible and undeniable sales success in previous phases, including the sale of 200 apartments. Of these, half will be delivered by the end of 2025.
Portuguese clients top the list of buyers, accounting for around 80% of sales since the project’s launch. However, international buyers are also showing significant interest, drawn to the resort’s unique blend of sustainability, luxury, and exclusivity.
In a statement, Lucília Cruz Pinto, commercial director of Verdelago Resort, explains this commercial success by highlighting the “strong demand from the Portuguese for the Sotavento Algarve region, particularly Praia Verde.” “This connection is deep-rooted and generational. We have many owners at Verdelago who have been visiting this area since childhood, coming with their parents or grandparents, and have now fulfilled their dream of owning a beach house in the region,” she says, adding that “the requests come from a target audience that values and recognises the exclusivity and authenticity of this project.” She also adds, “The concepts of sophistication and luxury, combined with low construction density, high security, and a strong commitment to preserving and protecting biodiversity, have been unwavering strengths.”
Verdelago has also attracted interest beyond Portugal’s borders, from buyers in Poland, the Netherlands, the UK, Italy, the US, and Spain. Lucília Cruz Pinto reveals that for this sales phase, a strategy targeting growing international markets has been prepared. “These clients tend to use their units during the low and mid-seasons, which allows us to have more units available for the high demand in the hotel industry during the peak season. This also allows them to earn a return through tourism exploitation,” explains the commercial director.
Regarding the commercial success observed in all sales phases, the commercial director attributes this to the fact that Verdelago Resort is “an unparalleled, unique, and innovative project that stands out in several areas – location, architecture, environment, and sustainability.” She adds, “Its privileged location, right on the beachfront between Altura and Praia Verde, and its deep respect for biodiversity, in perfect harmony with nature, make it stand out in the national tourist-residential sector due to its low construction density and key features. It is a luxury development, sophisticated and efficient in terms of construction, mobility, and energy.”
According to Lucília Cruz Pinto, Verdelago Resort “is also the first tourist resort in the country to obtain Green Globe certification, one of the most demanding international certifications for sustainable tourism, with affiliation from the United Nations World Tourism Organization.” For all these reasons, she assures that this “is an excellent investment opportunity, not only because of its significant appreciation but also due to the financial return associated with tourism exploitation.”
