The Portuguese Government has set up a task force to focus on affordable housing, aiming to “define guiding principles for investments supported under Portugal 2030” in this sector, according to a decree published in the Diário da República.
Dated 3 March, the decree explains that the group will also coordinate the sharing of information needed to prepare the tools and processes for selecting housing investments, and will monitor their progress.
The task force, signed off by the Secretary of State for Planning and Regional Development, Hélder Reis, and the Secretary of State for Housing, Patrícia Santos, includes: one coordinator from the Agency for Development and Cohesion; one representative from each of the offices of the two Secretaries of State; a representative from the managing authority of the Regional Programmes covering the North, Centre, Alentejo, Algarve, Azores, and Madeira; a representative from the Institute for Housing and Urban Rehabilitation (IHRU); and a representative from the “Recover Portugal” Mission Structure (EMRP).
Members will not receive a salary. Their responsibilities include identifying mature projects that could benefit from affordable housing support, assisting in drafting calls for applications under the specific objectives of Portugal 2030, aligning financing conditions, monitoring implementation, and proposing measures to speed up progress where needed.
The task force is scheduled to operate until 31 December 2030, unless its mandate is extended by a further decree.
