The city of Porto continues to show strong momentum in the premium real estate market, consolidating its position as one of Portugal’s leading destinations for high-end property. The city attracts both domestic and international buyers seeking quality, location and long-term value.
According to the Market Report Portugal 2025–2026 by Engel & Völkers (E&V), the luxury real estate segment has remained resilient despite supply constraints. Demand for exclusive, well-located homes built to high standards continues to drive activity in the market. Among international investors in Porto, buyers from the United States, France and Spain are particularly prominent.
Prime areas and emerging trends
The most exclusive and sought-after areas in Porto remain Foz do Douro, Nevogilde and Boavista, especially for premium apartments.
At the same time, Vila Nova de Gaia and Matosinhos are gaining ground, supported by new residential developments and their proximity to the sea, according to the agency’s statement.
In terms of property type, contemporary architect-designed homes are attracting increasing interest due to the space, privacy and overall quality of life they provide. These properties are typically located in quieter, peripheral areas with closer access to nature.
In central and riverside districts, premium apartments remain highly valued for their proximity to shops, services and infrastructure. The strong transport links and accessibility across the Porto Metropolitan Area have also expanded residential options, allowing for easy movement between the city centre and surrounding municipalities, which further strengthens the region’s appeal.
In the press release, Gustavo Soares, Licensing Partner at E&V Porto, notes that the city “has been consolidating its position as a benchmark market in the premium segment, combining authenticity, quality of life and an increasingly sophisticated real estate supply.”
He highlights “consistent demand for properties that stand out through location, architecture or distinctive features,” reinforcing Porto’s visibility among national and international investors.
The most sought-after properties in the region include:
- Luxury homes with garden and pool: typically located in quiet residential neighbourhoods, appealing to families who prioritise space and privacy.
- Premium apartments in central areas: featuring high-end finishes, open views and close access to key amenities and cultural landmarks.
- Renovated properties: combining traditional Portuguese architecture with modern comfort and updated interiors.
