During the coronavirus pandemic in Portugal and across the planet, people have realised the importance of having some sort of outdoor space, whether a small garden, terrace, balcony or patio. These spaces have become some of the most relevant spaces of the house in the lives of people and families in recent times and they are, moreover, a point of connection with the outside world, increasingly taking on the role of an alternative area to breathe clean air.

As extensions of the house from the outside, they can be covered or open, have leisure functions as an extension of the living area and/or bedrooms, or as an extension of the kitchen with service functions, namely, a clothesline and concealment of air conditioning, amongst others.

With the help of MELOM, a company specialised in property remodelling in Portugal, we leave you some ideas to enjoy these outdoor spaces of the house to their maximum potential

  • Take advantage of one of the walls to install a vertical garden, with your favourite plants or make an aromatic garden.

  • To make the most of space and eliminate the need for storage you can create storage solutions by choosing practical furniture such as benches, boxes, cupboards, shelves.

  • Create a chill out area with sofas, puffs and some decoration to your liking, things which will undoubtedly make the space more pleasant. You can also create a dining area with a table and chairs to enjoy an outdoor meal and socialise with friends and family.

  • If you want to guarantee some privacy, you can resort to one of the various solutions available on the market, with vegetation, screens, metal panels and bamboo reeds, for example.
  • Safety should be a concern if you have children at home. As such, you can protect your balcony with one of the following solutions: net, acrylic and glass for example, and if the space already has walls, even better.
