There are various palaces located in the charming streets and hills of Sintra. And there is one that will open to the public for the first time on 30th April 2022. Get ready to visit Palácio Biestar, a property whose construction dates back to the end of the 19th century and which has recently been restored, respecting its history and architecture.
Palácio Biestar in Sintra is considered a revivalist building, which combines various influences, especially neo-Gothic (English and Alpine) and romantic. Located on Estrada da Pena, near Quinta da Regaleira, in Sintra, this palace was designed by the architect José Luís Monteiro, and is considered "one of his most representative works".
"The Casa Biester is distinguished by the articulation of architecture with the decorative arts, to which a team of artists working in a limited period contributed", as stated on the website of Portugal's Directorate-General of Cultural Heritage (DGPC).
The decorative programme of the Biester Palace, according to the DGPC, is based on "coherence, within romantic eclecticism". It highlights arts such as: 'boiseries' by Leandro Braga, decorative painting by Luigi Manini, relief tiles from the Fábrica de Cerâmica das Caldas, by Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro (1846-1905) and French stained glass windows.
Moving to the grounds of the building, it will be possible to visit Parque Biester, which offers views over the town of Sintra and its surrounding area. Here you can find several species of exotic plants, such as Camellia trees from China and Japan, according to the Portuguese newspaper Público.
From 30th April 2022 it will be possible to visit this palace in Sintra. Tickets cost 10 euros for all visitors aged between 13 and 65. The price of the visit is 5 euros for children between 5 and 13 years old and for adults between 65 and 80 years old. Children under 5 years old can enter free of charge, as can those who are over 80 years old. And there is also the possibility to buy a family ticket (which includes two adults and two children) and costs 25 euros.
