Portugal is the 7th best country in the world for women to work in, according to the Glass Ceiling Index for 2021, drawn up by the North American magazine The Economist. The ranking includes 29 countries and combines data such as education, employment, salary, childcare, maternity and paternity rights and representation in top positions.

The best country for a woman to work is Sweden, followed by Iceland, Finland and Norway. This is because the Nordic countries "are particularly good at helping women finish college, secure a job, give access to top positions in companies and benefit from leave systems and flexible working hours", reads the publication.

In 5th, 6th and 7th place come France, Denmark and Portugal. The Top 10 is closed with Belgium, New Zealand and Poland, respectively. Spain appears in 15th position and Germany in 22nd place, below the OECD average. The USA, in this case, occupies the 18th position, with South Korea at the bottom of the table.
