What are the best cities for teleworking? Lisbon is the best city in Portugal and in Europe for remote workers, as well as the 3rd best city in the world to work from home. Only Bangkok, in Thailand, and New Delhi, in India, are better than the Portuguese capital, occupying the first and second places on this list. This ranking prepared by Holidu, a British accommodation search platform, analyses 147 cities from countries all over the world. And it considers that there are several reasons that make Lisbon one of the best cities to work remotely: "it is the home of the delicious pastel de nata, has excellent cheap wine and a vibrant energy to the sound of fado that fills its streets", reads the publication.

In addition, the Portuguese capital also offers remote workers "easy access to a number of beaches, perfect for an early morning or late afternoon swim, with taxis costing just £0.40 per km," they add.

There are other Portuguese cities considered in this study that are also great options for those working from home: Porto, which appears in 27th place, and Faro, which appears in 58th position. In the neighbouring country of Spain, 6 cities were also evaluated, with Barcelona being the highest ranked, in 4th place. Madrid, the Spanish capital, came in 12th place, ahead of Valencia (28th), Malaga (47th), Seville (51st) and Palma de Mallorca (98th).

At the bottom of the table is Geneva (Switzerland), Valletta (Malta) and Reykjavik (Iceland), occupying the last three positions.

To define which are the best cities to work remotely, Holidu considered several criteria, such as internet speed, the number of co-working spaces, the average price of coffee, the average price of a taxi per km, the average price per month of a room in a flat and the average cost of a meal at a local restaurant. In terms of climate and entertainment, factors such as sunlight hours, the average price of 2 beers in a bar for after-work drinks, the number of attractions to visit on Tripadvisor and the number of photos on Instagram with a hashtag were also taken into account.
