Portugal prides itself in excellent cuisine, and this is reflected in the number of Michelin stars awarded to the country's restaurants. The 2023 Michelin stars have been awarded and Portugal is shining bright, with Michelin star restaurants in the Algarve, Lisbon, Porto and beyond in 2022-2023, Portugal is home to seven restaurants with two Michelin stars, and now has 5 more with one star, with the total increasing from 26 to 31. So, how many Michelin stars are there in Portugal? This means that in total, there are currently a total of 45 Michelin stars awarded to 38 restaurants across the country. 

2023 Michelin Stars in Portugal

The ceremony to award the new stars took place recently in Toledo, Spain, as part of the Michelin Guide for Spain and Portugal, with the organisation also announcing that from 2024, Portugal will have its very own Michelin guide dedicated solely to the Portuguese culinary scene. And when it comes to the best of the best in Portuguese restaurants, these are the establishments that hold two Michelin stars in Portugal:

The new additions to the list and the 2023 Michelin Stars in Portugal were awarded to the following restaurants, all of which are located in wither Lisbon or Porto. 

  • Encanto (Lisbon)
  • Euskalduna Studio (Porto)
  • Kabuki Lisboa (Lisbon)
  • Kanazawa (Lisbon)
  • Le Monument (Porto)

Portugal also has another restaurant that has been awarded a Green Star, an award given to restaurants that prove themselves to be at the forefront of sustainable practices. Mesa de Lemos, in Viseu, which also has a Michelin star, has taken home the award in 2022-2023, following in the footsteps of Il Gallo d'Oro, in Funchal, and Esporão, in Reguengos de Monsaraz.
