Surfers Cove

Portugal's west coast is known for its perfect waves that attract tourists from all over the world, with Ericeira, Peniche and Nazaré being the destinations of choice for surfers. The municipality of Óbidos is also catching the wave and building a surf village with a wave pool. The total investment is expected to exceed 30 million euros.

It's called Surf Parque and it's being built in Óbidos, located between Ericeira and Nazaré. It's a 4-star holiday resort that aims to attract Portuguese and foreign tourists that have one thing in common: surfing.

Launched by Surfers Cove, it will offer 144 beds (56 units), a restaurant, a surf shop, several skate parks, paddle and beach tennis courts, a surf school, green areas and an energy and water efficient wave pool. It will cover an area of 5 hectares, according to the press release.

The architectural project for the holiday village, signed by Frederico Valsassina, has already been given the green light by the Óbidos local authorities and the Portuguese tourist board, and the other licensing phases are now underway.

This €30 million surfing initiative is due to commence in 2024, with construction scheduled to be completed in March 2026. The plan is to create 50 jobs.
