Lisbon is shaping up to be the place to be, as EuroPride 2025 rolls into town and promises a proper celebration of LGBTQIA+ life and community. The city has a knack for bringing people together, and this time, the streets will be full of colour, music, and the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to stick around till sunrise. You’ll find parades winding through bustling neighbourhoods, open-air parties down by the river, and a real sense of togetherness across every event.

Unlike local Pride events, EuroPride travels to a different European city each year. EuroPride weaves together political advocacy, cultural programming, open-air concerts, and countless ways for people from all walks of life to come together and support equality.

Lisbon secured the hosting spot after a vote by the European Pride Organisers Association, recognising the city’s longstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion. The nickname “Proudly Yourselves” underlines the core message for 2025—encouraging people to live authentically and celebrate without fear or shame.

For Portugal’s LGBTQIA+ community, this is a milestone. Lisbon’s local pride, Arraial Lisboa Pride, has grown steadily over the years, and being trusted with EuroPride cements the city’s place on the international stage.

Why celebrate EuroPride in Lisbon?

EuroPride stands out as the most international of all the European Pride events. Held in a different city each year, past hosts include Rome, London, Stockholm, and Vienna. It symbolises cross-border solidarity and highlights shared advocacy for rights and freedoms throughout Europe. For attendees, it’s a rare chance to see activists, artists, and revellers from across the continent take over a city with a shared spirit of diversity.

Portugal’s journey has gathered pace, especially in recent decades. Homosexuality was decriminalised in 1982, and the country has since become known for its progressive stance. Same-sex marriage was legalised in 2010, and the ban on conversion practices was lifted, with growing protections for trans people.

Getting around Lisbon during Pride week

Getting about Lisbon during EuroPride is straightforward, but expect a bit of extra buzz. The city’s metro, trams, and buses all connect the main event areas, so you rarely need more than a short ride. If you base yourself in the city centre, you’ll be able to reach most Pride venues on foot within 20–30 minutes.

For travellers with disabilities or reduced mobility, most metro stations in central Lisbon have step-free access and lifts, though some historic tram lines and streets are still a bit uneven. Bigger venues like Parque Mayer and Praça do Comércio are fully accessible, with space set aside for those needing assistance.

Where to stay for EuroPride in Lisbon

The heart of EuroPride action is right in central Lisbon, so you’ll want to consider staying somewhere with easy reach of both Parque Mayer and Praça do Comércio.

Príncipe Real is always a favourite among LGBTQIA+ visitors—there’s a friendly nightlife scene, charming cafés, and you’re just a short wander from the EuroPride Village. If you’re after something local and laid-back, neighbourhoods like Chiado, Baixa, and Bairro Alto are packed with boutique guesthouses, apartments, and guest-friendly hostels. These are also popular spots for people looking for long-term rentals and the best neighbourhoods to live in Lisbon. Budget travellers can look for hostels or shared apartments just north in Arroios or Intendente.

For those after a flatshare with an inclusive vibe, use the LGBT-friendly filter when searching for rooms to rent in Lisbon—it's a handy way to find places where you'll feel right at home.

Things to do in Portugal over summer

If you're sticking around in Portugal, you won't run out of festivals and events to get stuck into during June. The Santos Populares celebrations are the real highlight of the month, with São João Festival in Porto kicking off the day after Pride.

Portugal also hosts lots of music festivals during the summer, such as BOOM. Finally, don't forget to check out the incredible beaches near Lisbon before heading home and back to reality.
