Where do the rich live in Portugal? Lisbon, Oeiras, Cascais, Sintra, Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia are the municipalities with the highest concentration of population with the highest income in the country. This is according to the study "Dashboard of Income Inequalities and IRS", published by the Ministry of Finance's Study Office (GPEARI). After previously revealing the most expensive streets in Portugal in 2022, this is where the rich live in Portugal.

According to the report, cited by Jornal de Negócios, the country's richest 0.1% received an average of 264.6 thousand euros in 2020 and paid an effective IRS income tax rate of 42.25%. The GPEARI data also shows that the richest in Portugal are mainly concentrated in municipalities on the country's coast, namely:

Portugal's inland regions, the Algarve coast and the Portuguese islands, on the other hand, are home to Portugal's poorest residents. Four municipalities in the Algarve have the largest share of people with the lowest income in the country, while 22,6% of the population of Albufeira makes up the poorest 10% of Portugal. Bragança, Vila Real and Viseu also stand out for concentrating high levels of households with less income.
