Arrábida National Park in Potugal is located between the town of Sesimbra and the city of Setúbal, and less 40km from Lisbon. This breathtaking coastal national park is a favourite for those who enjoy mountain walks and hiking and provides a stunning panorama for tourists and locals alike. The Portuguese park is now going to be home to a new project where visitors will be able enjoy the park to the maximum, located in the area of Cabo Espichel. This area will receive a new eco-hotel fully equipped with Kebony, a sustainable and high quality wood that does not require maintenance, besides basic cleaning. The hotel is called Etosoto and has the signature of the French architect Julien Labrousse, who is also its owner.
Set on a 2.5km long and 800 metre wide undulating terrain, crossed by avenida 25 de Abril and with direct access to the Cape Espichel lighthouse, the Etosoto project stems from two houses made with Kebony Character wood. The projects will now grow to a total of 58 accommodation units made of this same Kebony wood, in addition to a restaurant, pool and spa. "This nucleus will be located in the northern part of the land, while in the southern part an area dedicated to organic farming will be developed," reads the statement.
The proximity to beaches, full integration with the nature of the Arrábida mountains and respect for the environment are distinctive factors of this eco-hotel in Portugal, developed from a concept that aims to "enhance ecological and sustainable places for new free and creative generations".
"The Etosoto Cabo Espichel project focuses on the goal of using materials that are as natural and local as possible. In a symbolic way, we would like to have a project with indigenous architecture in the sense that it would only use materials native to the project area. 96% of the materials used in the project are wood, along with some stone. All wood and stone will therefore come from the project area. Furthermore, the visual aspect of Kebony wood is very attractive and natural after ageing", says architect Julien Labrousse.
