Madeira’s biggest spring celebration fills the island with floral carpets, parades and concerts that spill out into the streets and gardens. Madeira Flower Festival 2026, locally called the Festa da Flor, is not just about pretty blooms. It’s a month-long mix of tradition, children’s ceremonies, classic cars, fashion and music, all built around Madeira’s extraordinary flora.
Madeira Flower Festival 2026: dates and what’s new
The official Madeira Flower Festival 2026 dates are 30th April to 31st May. Across that period, Funchal becomes the centre of the celebrations, with decorative installations, exhibitions and markets running for most of the month.
For 2026, there will be two Allegoric Flower Parades instead of one. They take place on 3rd May and 17th May, at 4.30 pm. This split format is new and spreads the main spectacle across two Sundays, giving visitors more flexibility when planning a May trip to Madeira.
Allegoric Flower Parade 2026
The Allegoric Flower Parade has been part of the festival since 1979 and is defined by large floral floats and around 1,500 participants, mostly children, dressed in elaborate costumes adorned with Madeira flowers.
The parade moves along the main avenue in central Funchal, accompanied by music and choreographed performances, creating one of the most visually striking afternoons of the year on the island.

Main events during the Madeira Flower Festival 2026
Beyond the headline parade, the Madeira Flower Festival 2026 schedule includes ceremonies, exhibitions and cultural events spread across Funchal and parts of the island.
Wall of Hope and Wall of Solidarity
The Wall of Hope takes place on 2d May 2026, between 10 am and 1 pm, at Praça do Município in Funchal.
Children place a single flower onto a symbolic wall in an appeal for peace.
The Wall of Solidarity, held on 8th May 2026, takes place beside the Flower Pavilion.
During this symbolic moment, representatives and beneficiaries of local charitable institutions come together to construct a floral wall, reinforcing the festival’s wider social and community spirit
Flower exhibition, market and carpets in Funchal
Running throughout the festival period, the flower exhibition showcases some of the most impressive examples of flowers produced across Madeira. Growers present their best specimens, which are evaluated and awarded by a specialised jury.
Alongside it, the Flower and Regional Products Market creates a traditional setting where visitors can see and purchase Madeira flowers and sample regional flavours.
The flower carpets, inspired by religious processions, are another striking feature. Carefully assembled floral patterns decorate central walkways in Funchal, turning ordinary streets into open-air artworks for most of May.
