Portugal’s first wave pool is set to open in Óbidos at the end of 2026, marking a significant development for the country’s surf tourism sector. You can now book a visit and get a discount.
The project, called Surfers Cove, is positioned between Ericeira and Nazaré, around 20 minutes from Peniche and one hour from Lisbon Airport. It combines artificial wave technology with on-site accommodation and leisure facilities.
The launch comes at a time when Portugal’s surfing tourism market is expanding rapidly, with revenue projected to grow substantially over the coming years.
What is Surfers Cove?
Surfers Cove will feature the first Wavegarden-powered wave pool in the European Union, as well as the 13th worldwide. The development represents an investment of more than €25 million, funded through private investment and European Union funding.
The opening date is scheduled for December 2026. The minimum age requirement for surf sessions is seven years old.
Early Bird Surf & Stay
An Early Bird Surf & Stay campaign launched on 15 July, allowing visitors to reserve surf sessions and accommodation before the official opening. Discounts of up to 30% are available for a limited time and in limited quantities.

A minimum two-night stay applies, and prices start at €217 per night.
Facilities beyond the wave pool
The development is designed as a wider lifestyle destination rather than just a surf facility. In addition to the wave pool and accommodation, the site will include:
- A restaurant
- 58 Surf retail store
- Skate parks
